[livejournal.com profile] ldws Week 3

The challenge for round 3 was another canon-based drabble.

I have to admit, I'm very proud of myself for completing the drabbles once a week. As some of you know (readers of Drow especially) I suck at discipline. I get caught up with other things like stress, new shiny plot bunnies, 16-hour days at work, crappy health, and multi-chaptered fic reading. There have only been 4 rounds so far, but hey, it's an accomplishment.

That being said, this drabble was a bit harder to come up with for me.

Challenge 3: From a certain point of view...
The majority of the Harry Potter books are written from Harry's point of view. This week's challenge is to write a canon missing scene from another character's point of view.
- The scene is Slughorn's Christmas Party in the 6th book
- You MUST write from the POV of a canon character who is not Harry (This does not mean that you have to write in first person)
- The drabble must be set either at the party or in the immediate vicinity (i.e. in the hallway outside)
- The drabble must fit with canon

The winning drabble was amazing - go read them all here.

Title: Oversight
Characters: Draco
Word Count: 200

Moving swiftly down the hallway, Draco carefully hid in the shadows and alcoves. He’d encountered Filch’s stupid cat, but had managed to hex it before she could alert her master.

He had to get into that party.

If things were different, he’d have been the guest of honour. Everyone who was anyone was invited, and Slughorn shouldn’t have made such an oversight. His father…

He had to get into that party.

It would be his reward. He’d made a lot of progress after all, and deserved to take a break. That’s right, he was the one doing all the work, and it would be nice to get a little bit of credit every once in a while. Instead, his mother was worrying about him, his father was returning his owls unopened, Snape was sticking his nose where it didn’t belong, and Potter was hounding him. All he wanted was one night of relaxation, was that too much to ask for?

“Stop right there.”

Draco composed himself and began convincing Filch that he had merely been delayed, but was in fact an invited guest. He had to get into that blasted party, and nothing was going to stand in his way.
