#7 is confusing to me, as it was to you. You don't need magic to be creative? Um, no, that's inherent in the fact that ... we don't have magic? Or did he mean that you can be creative and write interesting stories that are non-magical, non-fantasy? Hmmm...

I'm glad that the whole thing was better and less stressful than you'd expected.

I think he was trying to say that I should be writing literary fiction, not genre.
